$10 Turbo SIM was a Success!

According to BigBuckz from Hackint0sh forums, the procedure from the last post works! If anyone knows of a way to improve them please post it in a comment. Also I just wanted to point out if it wasn’t clear before, the software only communicates on a serial port.

Max

Edit: Here is the thread where BigBuckz has confirmed the method to work and where others have been testing.

NOTE: BigBuckz has provided no proof that he has been successful. He has just claimed that the method worked.

  1. This is probably bogus.

You’re writing the IMSI and ICCID on the dual SIM holder in order to fake the presence of an AT&T card. OK, all fine and dandy so far.

However, on the TurboSIM, AppleSaft will only report the fake IMSI/ICCID once or twice to the iPhone, and the iPhone will be happy with it (that’s the whole point of the exploit!); then AppleSaft will proceed by reporting your actual carrier’s IMSI/ICCID, so you can log onto your carrier’s network.

See how this fails here? Your own IMSI/ICCID are never going to be reported to the iPhone since the logic that ceases to report the AT&T codes isn’t present on the dual SIM holder. Or is it? Those instructions surely aren’t programming any kind of control or timeout regarding the IMSI/ICCID reporting.

It would be a GREAT solution, but I think it’s bogus.

  2. mitts i jus have one thing to say have u ever wondred how stealthsim works lol

  3. Yes, I have. How does it work? :)

  4. Actually, I’m going to answer myself here.

StealthSIM could well pack some logic like AppleSaft, the only difference being that they built it in already, unlike TurboSIM which is pretty much multi-purpose (and hence programmable).

The SuperSIM method involves loading flash and eeprom files, probably developed by Sassha, and those too are very likely to contain the IMSI/ICCID switching logic.

So yeah, colour me a little skeptic still.

  5. Unfortunately I think you’re right, Mitts.
MagicSim crew even don’t know about this use of their own product… though it would surely have increased sales!
BigBuckz is maybe a bugger.. guess he’s about to massively import magic sim products and resale them for Christmas?

  6. hi, can I use a USB sim card reader???? thanks!!!!

  7. So usb card Reader doesn’t work? Can’t seem to find any serialport one!
Also which version did BigBucks test it on? 16 or 15?

  8. Hi all, wonderfull work guys!!!
    Only two questions:
1-The only MagicSim version availabe is 16A. Do you know if it works?
2- IMSI and ICCID are needed, ¿but are the KI needed?. If not cool! Because I cant extract Ki of my v2 SIm.

    Regards from Spain.

  9. @superg3: I’ve read that it works with the 16th version :-)

  10. BigBuckz . can you provide a good tutorial on how you succeeded with this method ?

  11. there’s not a scrap of evidence :/
    don’t believe in this bs!

  12. superg3:
The Ki of the sim card its not required.
In the case you need the ki, you must extract the Ki from the AT&T card, not from your (put your favorite GSM operator name here plz) SIM, and I think its imposible, but in this case you only need the IMSI and ICCID.
    Correct me if iim wrong.
    Regards from Mexico

  13. Repeating my comment on the other thread: there is quite a feedback loop in here.

People on the other forums are reporting “IT WORKS!” based on what they read here. And in here the SINGLE success reported is BigBuckz’s.

I’m warning you, DON’T JUMP YOUR GUNS. Before we get other reports I’m calling it bogus, and from the looks of my personal communication with those folks, so are they: g, DarKSideZ, PsxGunDown and MxWeas — in essence, the very people who COINCEIVED THIS WHOLE IDEA!

There’s some hope however, but before more CREDIBLE people test it, do NOT expect this solution to work. There’s ZERO evidence that the MagicSIM 16th is writable, and as far as we know the 15th can only be written with WHOLE backups of a V1 SIM, not partial info such as just the ICCID/IMSI. At least not with MagicSIM’s software.

HOLD YOUR HORSES. You’ve been warned.

  16. The MagicSIM crew HAS(!) a note about compatibility to the iPhone (its the v16A) and you can find it directly on their website:

    http://www.magicsim.com

search for Apple or iPhone and you will be linked direktly to V16A
